PURPOSE

The Technical Service Section of the WLA contributes to the professional welfare of its membership and to librarianship generally as the Section of WLA responsible for activities related to the acquisition, identification, cataloging, classification, reproduction and preservation of library materials in all types of institutions, and to the development and coordination of Wisconsin's library resources. TSS is affliated with the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association.

EVENTS

Join us May 1 for Prevention First: Book Protection/Repair Workshop facilitated by Kary Barth of Book Kare with Kary.

$55 for WLA Members/$75 for Nonmembers

Limited to 25 participants. Must have 25 registered participants by April 15 to hold the workshop.

This event is now full.  Please call 608-245-3640 to be placed on a cancellation list.

 This 3-hour workshop is designed to demonstrate quick and easy techniques for extending shelf life on general circulating materials. Prevention is the key, but we will address specific, common repairs: re-inserting loose pages, broken spines, torn header caps, ripped and torn pages. This event is sponsored by the WLA Support Staff & Circulation Service Section (SSCS) and the Technical Service Section (TSS).

Each participant is asked to bring:

  • One paperback book, preferably new or new-like to demonstrate covering techniques;
  • A hardbound book with a book jacket to demonstrate application of book jacket covers;
  • A stapled book or magazine;
  • One hardbound book that needs repair and a "naked" hardbound book, i.e., a hardbound book that does NOT have a book jacket; and
  • A hardbound book with a book jacket.

Each participant will be provided with a sample pack of materials.
