How has being a member of WLA impacted you or your career?
Involvement in WLA has provided several impacts in my career-notably looking into rolling out a state-wide effort to offer Microsoft training. Although this training was not suitable for public libraries, it allowed me to talk to many libraries, schools, and state legislature members to understand if the program would be beneficial. Personally, I have had made a number of friends and close colleagues during my time as a WLA member.
Do you have a library role model (in Wisconsin or elsewhere) that has provided you with inspiration or guidance? Please share a little bit about it.
Several role models have given me inspiration. I'll give the person's name as' Library Workers'. From small to large, rural to urban, and school to special libraries, these organizations' workers have all provided me with inspiration to find solutions that support library workers and organizations' users. The same Library Workers for many years have provided me with a great wealth of knowledge and guidance for professional and personal growth.
Do you have any advice for new WLA members?
As others have said, volunteering is the best way to get the most out of your membership. There are many ways in which you can volunteer. Find something that you like or would like to experience and offer your time.
