How has being a member of WLA impacted you or your career?
Through the support of WLA, I have had easier access to conferences, including WAPL (Wisconsin Association for Public Libraries). I have also been able to be a part of WISL (Wisconsin Small Library Section of WLA) where I have developed relationships that have helped make me a better librarian.
Do you have a library role model (in Wisconsin or elsewhere) that has provided you with inspiration or guidance? Please share a little bit about it.
Katherine Elchert (McMillian Memorial Library, Wisconsin Rapids). Katherine is a fierce advocate for libraries and the role they play in a community. She understands the importance of partnerships and working together. She has always been a strong voice of support for other librarians and for vulnerable people.
Do you have any advice for new WLA members?
Make the most out of your membership. Complete continuing education webinars, join sections so you can find "your people", sign up for the Leadership Development Institute, and prioritize attending conferences.
